Monica Miki is a Carlsbad based artist, originally from Santa Monica. She grew up with her mother's baking and the creative influence of her father's Kirie (Japanese paper-cut) Art. She first found an outlet for her creativity by studying fashion design in college. After being impressed by the artistry she saw on shows like Ace of Cakes, she took classes and completed Palomar College’s Cake Design Program through Ro Z’s Sweet Art Studio in 2009. She instantly fell in love with the detailed art of cake design and developed a style inspired by graphic artists, animation and pop art. Monica is especially fond of cake's ability to surprise people and make them smile. She went on to win multiple cake competitions including Ro Z’s Sweet Art Studio’s Holiday Competition 2009, ArtSplash 2010 and ArtSplash 2011 in Carlsbad. She hopes to merge her love of baking with her creative side by building her brand “monstar cakes”. Monica’s playful use of her name in her brand, and her adorable monster logo perfectly represents her colorful, cute, and fun style.
